Need help linking an SQL Database with a Website Just a push in the right direction please?

So I started messing around trying to write a website for a free game and I am remedial at best when it comes to SQL. I have done okay making the website look much better but there are a couple of features I would really love to add in, its an RPG and all the information for the characters is stored in an SQL database, i have full access to the database through navicat using MySql.

I would like to make a search box that can search the character and display the numbers for some of the character stats, they are all centrally located in one section of the database. If possible id love to be able to search some of the other stuff in it too though.

i would love for it to function like the section of the website located at https://www.etkaddict.com/characters/ any help i could get with this would be appreciated.

I'm not asking you to write the code for me here, just a push in the right direction, are there some tutorials that you could point me toward so i can learn to do this i just don't know where to start since ive never done this kind of thing, i dont know if its php or through sql or xml or if i can use css or html for it or what, please if you know the tutorials i could watch to help me learn to do this i have hours and hours free to watch them and i would love to learn, I'd rather not have someone just post a chunk of code for me I actually want to know how to do this.
